On March 28, 2014, the University of Kentucky Wildcats (eighth seeded) went head to head against in-state rivals and defending National Champions, University of Louisville Cardinals (fourth seeded). The Cardinals lead all but 65 seconds of the entire game. The Wildcats, with a starting squad of five young freshmen, trailed mid-way in the first half by as much as thirteen points. However, with only four and half minutes of game time remaining, this come-from-behind-to-win team had closed that gap to seven.
It was Wildcat sophomore, Alex Poythress, who initiated the turn-around with five points in a 7-0 run that tied the game at 66-all with 2:11 remaining. At the 0:39 mark, Aaron Harrison makes good on a 22-foot, 3-point jump shot and puts the Wildcats in the lead 70-68. Cardinal Wayne Blackshear sinks the second of two free throws on a shooting foul to bring the gap to within one point, and Kentucky Wildcats Julius Randle and Aaron Harrison each score two free throws in the final 13 seconds to win the game for the University of Kentucky Wildcats 74 – 69 over the Louisville Cardinals.
