Wisconsin downs W. Michigan in Cotton Bowl
With his team clinging to a 17-10 lead against the Western Michigan Broncos in the 81st Cotton Bowl Classic, Wisconsin inside linebacker T.J. Edwards took matters into his own hands
Edwards, who earned the McKnight Trophy as the defensive MVP, pulled in a game-changing interception to set up a decisive touchdown drive by the Badgers.
The final score was 24-16. The previously unbeaten MAC champion Broncos, featured the dynamic duo of Zach Terrell and consensus All-America wide receiver Corey Davis.
Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst credited Edwards’ interception for keeping the Badgers on track in the game.
Troy Fumagalli’s fantastic one-handed grab to set up Wisconsin's first touchdown gave the Badgers early momentum.
Wisconsin players were so caught up in their victory celebration they momentarily forgot about the Field Scovell Trophy that goes to the victors. "We left it on the field," senior quarterback Bart Houston said. "The coaches' kids were with it."
Houston and tight end Eric Steffes went on a recovery mission and brought the trophy to the locker room.
The 2016-17 Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017 between Western Michigan and Wisconsin at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The official DVD+Blu-ray combo contains the complete game with network coverage without commercial interruption.
